Background: Newburgh Engineering is a high tech precision engineering company working in the nuclear, energy, oil, gas, rail and defence markets. The company was set up in 1939, based in Bradwell Derbyshire by Isaac Middleton and current MD Vincent Middleton expanded the company in to Rotherham in 2004. A purpose built facility was constructed, which they have since expanded to 135,000 sq. ft. of modern manufacturing space, employing 140 people. Newburgh are also involved with the Bloodhound Super Sonic Car (SSC) project.

Assistance: RiDO assisted Newburgh during their expansion programme from their Bradwell base. Assistance was given on land search, financial assistance, skills and recruitment, planning, and continous business support.

Background: U-Explore is a unique business, having introduced an innovative technology and methodology into the education sector.

Through partnerships with businesses and organisations within the public and private sectors, they are transforming learning through a new technology platform which is now distributing rich media employer content into classrooms, both regionally and nationally. This is bringing much needed context to Diplomas, enterprise education, careers information, advice and guidance and a wide range of other curriculum areas.

Assistance: RiDO assisted U-Explore in relocating their operation following a split from former parent company The Music Factory Entertainment Group. The project involved looking at grant assistance, as well as help with recruitment, finding property in the borough and links to partners.

Name: Toyoda Gosei (www.toyoda-gosei.com)

Location: Templeborough, Rotherham

Industry: Automotive Components Manufacture

Background: When Toyoda Gosei, part of the Toyota group, created its first European base in Rotherham, the result was an initial £32 million investment, planned to create 400 jobs by the end of 2004. A further number of £multi-million expansions have since taken the jobs total to around 700. The plant produces rubber weatherseals for car doors and windows.

Assistance: RiDO assisted Toyoda Gosei in partnership with Yorkshire Forward, helping them to locate a site in Rotherham in competition with the rest of the UK. Assistance was given on planning, environmental health, financial assistance, skills and recruitment and public relations. RiDO continues to support the company to this day. Additionally, help was provided on Japanese staff relocations to the area, as part of this international expansion project into the UK.
