If you’ve been longing for freshly brewed coffee, sumptuous gateaux and cakes, hand-crafted chocolates, pastries and home-made bread baked on the premises, then look no further than Shocolat, which opens Friday September 10 in Rotherham town centre.

Successful in gaining one of Rotherham Borough Council’s Business Vitality Grants, owner Russell Hardy has reopened a shop on Corporation Street as a high-quality chocolatier, patisserie and coffee shop.

Selling home-made bread and hand made chocolates will definitely give Shocolat its unique selling point. A hot chocolate made from real chocolate and the smell of freshly baked bread is bound to have people flocking.

Owner Russell Hardy said: “The grants have been a huge help in us setting us up in business. It was also a big factor in our decision to open in Rotherham town centre as opposed to where we live – in Sheffield.

“We’ve done our market research and we know that there are a couple of thousand people that work in town centre offices for the council, banks, solicitors and other professional services – these are the people that have said they’d like to see a good quality coffee shop that’s doing something a little bit different.”

Shocolat will also provide freshly made Panini’s and melts for people wanting to grab lunch on the go. Alternatively shoppers and workers on their lunch breaks can take a seat inside and enjoy a coffee and cake at their leisure.

The council’s Business & Retail Investment Team Manager Tim O’Connell said: “we’re extremely pleased to see Shocolat open in Rotherham town centre. This kind of quality offer coming here will add something to the great businesses we have already.

“Shocolat will be opening at the same time as a number of other businesses which makes it an extremely exciting time to visit Rotherham town centre. The Works opened a couple of weeks ago and we have a number of other national enquires on other units at the moment. Shocolat will open shortly after Dressed by Ks prom and bridal wear and Italian restaurant Eatalian.”

Rotherham Borough Council’s Business Vitality Grants offer eligible new, or expanding, businesses 50% off their first year’s rent, 25% off in year two and help towards fit-out costs.

The starting opening hours will be Monday to Saturday 8am to 4:30pm and provide another great reason to Shop Local.
