AESSEAL plc have been recognised as one of the past year’s leading UK exporters, overcoming the challenges posed by the current global economic climate to excel in their international trading activities.

The Rotherham based company beat off fierce competition to win the North East England, Yorkshire and Humber regional title of the 2010/11 International Trade Awards, sponsored by Santander Corporate Banking and Eversheds.

Following an unprecedented number of high quality applications the judging panel, chaired by Phil Orford of the Forum of Private Business, confirmed that AESSEAL - leading providers of high-integrity mechanical seals to customers in over 100 countries worldwide - was the outstanding candidate for region.

On receiving the award Richard Cook, AESSEAL’s production and personnel director said; “Having witnessed the strength of the competition, we are understandably delighted to have been named as regional winners.

“During the last decade our business has almost quadrupled in size, primarily due to our pursuit of excellence and an increasingly international presence. More fundamentally, it is the quality of our people that makes the difference and we are fortunate to have a highly capable and committed team, 75% of whom are based overseas.”

Neil Williams, regional director, Yorkshire and Humberside for Santander Corporate Banking said, "We have been delighted to sponsor these awards. The UK remains an extremely strong trading nation and it is beyond doubt that companies need both recognition and support to help grow their businesses internationally.

“The innovation, flexibility and sheer tenacity of UK business during difficult times has never ceased to amaze me and the calibre of the applicants goes to reflect this."

“As an international law firm with a strong local presence, we were keen to get involved in these awards because international trade forms a crucial part of our region’s economy and is key in these challenging economic times," commented Hannah Kendrick, corporate partner from Eversheds Leeds.

“These awards are an excellent showcase of local talent and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Santander to reward businesses who have excelled in this area”.

The judges commented that despite turmoil in global markets and the credit crunch, excellent companies, such as AESSEAL, continue to show the country, the media and the politicians that UK business and industry are still world-beaters in many fields.

AESSEAL will be amongst the other regional finalists invited to attend the overall International Trade Awards final, held at a prestigious London venue later this Autumn.
