Rotherham-based commercial property specialists Burgess Commercial are celebrating their second anniversary, after starting the business at the most challenging time that the commercial property sector has ever faced.

Directors Paul Burgess and Neil Keally established the company in January 2009 at a time when the property bubble had well and truly burst.  The banks had been bailed out, with both the residential and commercial property sectors proving very difficult.

However, against the odds, Paul and Neil, two well - known local chartered surveyors with a strong reputation in the industry, set up Burgess Commercial based on their ethos to offer a personal service to clients locally and nationally, based on their extensive knowledge and good network of contacts from over 40 years in the commercial property sector between them.

“We knew it was a difficult time to set up a new company, but we also recognised that there was the need for a commercial property business which offers a personal service and has really good local knowledge,” said Paul Burgess, Director at Burgess Commercial.  “We have outperformed our expectations in the first two years, and have grown the business significantly.”

The main services offered by Burgess Commercial are property management, sales and lettings, and general professional work.  The firm has a rapidly growing commercial property portfolio, including clients in Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham, as well as extending out as far as Hull in the North of England to Hertfordshire in the South.

Highlights for the company over the past two years have included Burgess Commercial overseeing the acquisition of land for Rotherham United Football Club, as the Millers plan their move back to their home town by building their own stadium, and the recent sale of two large warehouse facilities at Meadowbank Industrial Estate and Eastwood Trading Estate in Rotherham.

Neil Keally, Director of Burgess Commercial, comments: “Our local knowledge an contacts within the Yorkshire region has been key to our success.  We are delighted to be celebrating our two year anniversary and we are very optimistic about our future expansion.”

Many commercial property owners are facing the challenge of payment of vacant business rates from April 2011 following a recent amendment to the legislation.  Neil continues: “We are working with our clients to design a range of attractive and innovative deals to attract tenants, in order to minimise the forthcoming vacant business rates liability.”

Burgess Commercial provides a full professional service for the sale and letting of commercial properties and development land, both large and small scale.  The company provides wide-ranging services from commercial property valuations and marketing to property management, including rent collection, issuing financial statements, overseeing and inspecting properties on a regular basis, ensuring compliance with terms of lease and carrying out rent reviews and lease renewals.  The Firm are also regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
