Business Support
A forthcoming event will explain how Rotherham people can be supported whilst setting up a business by the Chamber of Commerce.

The event on Tuesday, 7th February, (4pm - 6pm) at Brinsworth Training will explain how the Chamber is providing guidance through the start-up process, mentoring owners once their business has been established and introducing them to useful contacts – all through the Regional Enterprise Programme (REP) which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The introduction of the REP follows the success of Business Community Support Officers (BCSO) programme, also funded by ERDF, which the Chamber delivered in Rotherham. Over the past three years, the BCSO programme delivered business support, advice and mentoring to over 350 local businesses, in addition to creating 115 new jobs and safeguarding over 500 local jobs. Gary Dunne, REP Programme Manager, said: “The BCSO programme was a huge success both for the Chamber and for local Rotherham businesses. “We’ve now built on that success and, through the support of the European Regional Development Fund, your Chamber has once again secured funding to further support local people who are thinking of starting a business, and also local existing businesses that wish to develop and grow.”

The event will also provide an opportunity for attendees to meet the Chamber’s Business Development Manager Michael Cullen, who took up his role at the beginning of January.

Pre and post start up business support is now available FREE of charge, from Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce to both, individuals and businesses alike in the Rotherham Borough through the Regional Enterprise Programme. The programme is supported financially by the European Union. It has attracted £3.2 million investment from the European Regional Development Fund as part of Europe’s support for the region’s economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme 2007-13.

Looking To Start A Business?
Due to the high demand for the Chamber’s National Enterprise Allowance Programme (NEA) delivered in both Barnsley & Rotherham, we are looking for more mentors. The programme is to deliver Business Mentoring to local people on Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) who wish to become self employed/start their own business.

Mentoring is a rewarding process and this is your opportunity to become a local volunteer business mentor to local people. The Chamber is looking for mentors to work one hour per week for eight weeks with local budding entrepreneurs and fledging businesses to help develop their ideas and produce a business plan.

Your business experience and expertise will be invaluable in helping fledgling businesses start and grow in Barnsley and Rotherham. If you wish to be involved in this programme please do not hesitate to contact: Barnsley: John Hufton - Rotherham: Gary Dunne -
