A new scheme launched in July, the CO2Sense Environment Voucher, has already helped 100 businesses save on average £1,500 and 4.6 tonnes of CO2 each year for every £1,000 invested. And businesses in Yorkshire and Humber still have chance to apply.

The Environment Voucher gives businesses two days of free consultancy to develop an action plan to show them where they could be saving costs and carbon. The business can then get up to £8,000 investment for up to 50% of the cost of equipment to help their business use less water and energy, improve their waste processes, generate clean energy or work with their supply chain to reduce the carbon footprint of their products or services.

So far, over 100 businesses have successfully applied for investment and consultancy that will allow them to save a total of £147,000 and 358 tonnes of CO2. Investment has been in more efficient heating, lighting and machinery.

Chris Lawn from Bradford Armature Winding Company limited an electrical engineering company has received £8,000 for a new gas fired boiler and gas fired hot air blowers for the shop floor. Chris said “The investment from CO2Sense was essential for us to install the new gas heating system on the site. The project not only reduced our energy costs, but also improved the working environment and made significant cuts in our carbon emissions. We want our company to be as green as possible, so the investment and support was vital to help us to do this.”

Matt Hill, CO2Sense Senior Consultant, said, “The Environment Voucher offers all sorts of businesses the opportunity to make real changes that will bring significant cost and carbon savings for their business. We have helped over 100 businesses already, but we want to help 100 more take advantage of these opportunities.”

The project is delivered by CO2Sense with funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

Businesses can apply any time and their eligibility for the support will be assessed within 7 working days of receipt by CO2Sense. For more information, visit or contact Miranda Hughes on 0113 237 8459.
