The UK remains the sixth biggest economy in the world. One of its strengths is in high technology manufacturing sectors such as aerospace, power generation, oil and gas exploration, medical components etc. with which it trades with the world.

The UK is focused on growing its trade in these products and is investing heavily in research, technology and equipment to do that.

Sheffield and its region sits at the hub of these supply chains because of its nationally unique expertise in high performance engineering materials and components. Sheffield is the place where design engineers come for solutions to their material problems as they develop products for the future international markets.
