Over 100 businesses from across South Yorkshire took part in a networking event set up to encourage them to meet the contractors who will be responsible for building the proposed new waste treatment facility at Bolton Road, Manvers, Rotherham.

Held on Friday (June 22) at the Dearne Valley Kingswood Centre, in Conisbrough, the event was a chance for local and regional suppliers to find out more factual information about the new site, learn about the process of tendering for future contracts and to talk directly to companies already involved in this major development.

Companies attending ranged from door manufacturers and suppliers, to engineering, cleaning and construction companies to specialist fire risk assessors.

Shanks representatives led the event with partners Birse (construction), Celtic (civil engineers and AD Technology), Mansell (construction) and Ecodeco, who will install the MBT technology. Morning and afternoon sessions opened with an introduction to the project, followed by one-to-one meetings between the companies and suppliers.

Also there to offer delegates further support and advice were business development officers from Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham councils.

Nigel Catling, Shanks’s Capital Delivery Director, said: “We were delighted that so many local and regional businesses took up our invitation to find out more about the new project and to come and talk to representatives from some of the companies already involved. It was a really useful opportunity for us too, to get a broader feel for the huge range of skills, experience and business experience within the Dearne Valley and wider South Yorkshire region.”
