Rotherham’s major economic driver is the ambitious Renaissance programme, which is already well under way.
Rotherham is forecast to attract £2bn of investment over the next 20 years, further enhancing the thriving local economy, with an aim to ensure that Rotherham is THE place where people want to invest, work and live.
New developments within the Renaissance project so far include the Riverside House civic offices & library, high quality apartments and retail space within the All Saints' Quarter, and redeveloped railway station. In addition, a landmark 12,000 seat community stadium has recently been completed on the former Guest & Chrimes site, creating an impressive focal point on the edge of the town centre.
Looking ahead, a new 107,000 sq.ft. Tesco Extra 'eco store' is expected to open in 2014, and a cultural/leisure led opportunity is available on the forge island site, both of which will add to the town centre's retail offer.
